Virtually any data file that can be opened in a Windows environment, including proprietary software, can be protected by CrypKey DLM, including:
- audio and video (e.g., .au, .avi, .fla, .mpg, .mp3, .wav, .wma, and .wmv)
- animation (e.g., .swf)
- documents (e.g., .doc, .pdf, .ppt, .pub, and .xls)
- help (e.g., .hlp)
- images and illustrations (e.g., .bmp, .eps, .gif, .jpg, .tif,)
- Internet pages (e.g., .htm, .html)
CrypKey DLM works by protecting and binding files to a specified computer or CrypKey USBKey, thereby thwarting illegal copying. Authorized access can be issued for any restricted time period time that you specify, such as 60 minutes, 60 days, or 60 uses. CrypKey DLM also offers several optional security control rights that you can assign to your file, such as:
- print (i.e., no print screen ability to full-printing privileges)
- save to . . . (i.e., save file on no machines to full save features)
- change (i.e., no allowed file changes to permitting many changes)
- distribution (i.e., no file distribution to full distribution)
- network distribution (i.e., specified server versus any server)
- viewing time (i.e., file viewing allowed from 30 minutes to 365 days)
- open (open file one time to an unlimited number of times)
- computer access (open file on a specified computer to any computer)
The security control rights assigned to the file always stay with the file, regardless of who attempts to access the data. CrypKey DLM-protected files can be bound to a CrypKey USBKey, where the protected data is limited to a specified number of uses.
CrypKey DLM protects data files that are stored almost anywhere, including:
- attached to an e-mail, even after the e-mail is sent
- stored on a portable digital media device (e.g., USB drive, CD, and DVD)
- posted on an FTP site
